PSYCHOLOGIST
You were always considered weird by the other kids in school. Instead of
participating in the usual sports like combat football, laser tag, or
pushing/taking drugs, you just sat back and watched. And analysed. By the
age of ten, you could tell when someone from school would go out and bash
old people for fun, a day or so before they knew. When it was one of your
friends, you would sit down with him and help him through the rough patch.
It usually worked. When it was one of the jocks, you would charge him. You
became good of digging out secrets from the jocks, and sometimes from your
friends as well. Sometimes you would use the information to blackmail
someone, indirectly. When you reached eighteen, you decided to become a
professional and go to college. You didn't have to pay, you had a steady
stream of patients already. Now you have a big office, a beautiful secretary,
a nice soft lounge, and two heavies in white in the room next door. Oh, don't
forget the taser under the desk. Or maybe you better make it a microwaver, as
some of your patients are borderline cyberpsycho's, and you wouldn't want to
kill one of your patients now, would you.....
Psychoanalysis is the ability to cure a neurotic or psychotic of their fears
and problems. Over a period of time, a person would eventually return back to
normal (hopefully). It is also the skill used to recover humanity loss due to
cybernetic implantation. As such, most of the time, psychologists are
treating cyberpsychos rather than the mentaly sick or criminally insane.

ATTORNEYS
Your siblings hated you when you were a kid. When you caught them stealing an
extra ration of kibble, you dobbed them in. You believed in the system. At
school, when you caught kids swapping pirated SegAtari game programs, you
dobbed them in. You believed in the system. At high school, when you caught
fellow class mates smoking cigarettes, you dobbed them in. You believed in
the system. It was then you decided that you would go to college to study law.
When you caught dorm mates cheating in exams, you dobbed them in. You believed
in the system. Eventually you graduated and affiliated yourself with a "bar"
association. When you caught fellow attorneys accepting bribes, you dobbed
them in. You believed in the system. After a couple of hard years, you proved
yourself worthy to become a Judge. It was your responsibility to dispense
justice, a goal long sought. A perp was brought forth for committing the
crime of repeat auto theft, the evidence proved him innocent. You believed
in the system. A perp was brought forth for committing the crime of rape,
the evidence proved him innocent. You believed in the system. A perp was
brought forth for committing the crime of Murder 1. The evidence proved him
innocent. You believed in the system. A month later he appeared before you
again for the same crime. The evidence proved him innocent. You believed
in the system. Then something tragic happened; your wife and two young
daughters were killed in a car bombing, in your car, and you were meant to
be there with them. You know who did it. You had no evidence but you knew
who did it. You knew it in your heart and soul. He appeared before the courts.
The evidence proved him innocent.
You no longer believe in the system.....
The special ability of Attorneys is called Reason. It is the application of
legal knowledge before the bench. With reason, the attorney attempts to prove
his theory by logic (linier or cyclical). This theory may have no bearing on
the guilt or innocence of the defendant. The skill can be used as an opposed
roll with two attorneys against each other, and the judge acting as referee.
It can also be used in conjunction with persuade and notice skills to
influence judges and spot flaws in opponent's cases.
The Expert:Law skill is rote knowledge of procedural and written law. To
learn the ability to analyse and apply legal situations, a student of law
must pass a series of examinations, be assessed capable by a judge, and
affiliate himself with a "bar" association. He may then accept clients and
charge fees. Eventually, he may become a judge.(This involves a change in
status only; the skill package stays the same.)
The distinction between attorneys and paralegal (a person with law skill only)
is important; ever since the purge of 1996, formal lawyers have been an
endangered species. Streetcorner paraleagles and fixers have taken over much
of the work. But in a real courtroom, even a knowledgeable fixer has no
chance against a trained attorney. Because of their short supply, attorney's
fees are somewhat high : an LPC trial will cost between 1500-2000eb, an MPC
trial costs 3500-4000eb, and an HPC trial (if you can get one) will cost as
much as 7000-8000eb. These fees don't include P.I.'S costs, or any of the
myriad expenses an Attorney might dream up. If you want to find that missing
witness, be prepared to shell out that euro.

COURIER
The Courier role was created by the Hound, webmaster of The BlackHammer CyberPunk Project. Hound has graciously given me permission to use it here. Thanks again Hound.... :)
Couriers are the low end of the Runner / Panzerboy spectrum. Famous for their
ability to get anything anywhere within the downtown core of whatever
metropolis you live in, the couriers keep the well-oiled cogs of business
running. But at the same time they are idolized as a bastion of "alternative"
that has survived even when gainfully employed. Most often today couriers
transfer secure chips containing data that cannot be transfered electronically,
but they also get the odd job running hardcopy or even flowers and gifts from
one corp HQ to another.
Using pushbikes, rollerblades or skateboards, Couriers can wizz across the
cityscape, playing chicken with the pedestrians, or going head to head with
automobile traffic. Couriers can get your parcel to the destination quicker
than most other types of courier, with the exception of the flyboys.
RapidTrans is the 1/2(INT+COOL) based courier special ability to get anywhere
in no time at all. With RapidTrans a courier can find shortcuts to his
destination (Diff 10), amazing shortcuts (Diff 20), back doors in or out of a
building (Diff 15) as well as secret access routes (Diff 25). All rolls are
at +5 Diff in another city except for back doors as courier is familiar with
general building design. Used at half value, RapidTrans can be used like the
Area Knowledge skill when you need to know more then just a shortcut.
